Is it a good choice to go for business analyst, being a B.Tech. in computer science?

eing a computer science engineer you are trained to succeed , when you work for an IT company. Their are following broad roles you can opt for

1. Development or Engineering Roles as a Techie or a Programmer
2. Business Analyst which is a Techno Managerial Role
3. Business Development and other Sales and Marketing Roles
4. Finance, HR and other corporate roles

Someone who is a fresher with lot of promise and potential you can take up roles 1 to 3 with ease and get trained to the levels of finesse with time.
Allow me to assume that you want to take up a choice between roles 1 and 2 that is between a Techie and a Business Analyst. As I have said a BA role is a Techno-managerial role, so you will be expected three set of skills

1. Technical Skills - Requirements Documentation, UML, BPMN, Visio etc etc which are core skills of a BA
2. Business or Domain Skills
3. Communication Project and Leadership skills

Career wise a you can reach heights, travel and earn well both as a techie or a Business Analyst all what IT industry demands from you is discipline, agility and excellence irrespective of the role you choose.
So a Business Analyst role will be a very good role for a computer science engineer if

1. Your long term career goals are to work for an IT company
2. You want to take up Techno Managerial positions
3. You have passion to communicate, collaborate
4. You are interested on the business side
